The Operation Welcome You Home Run For The Brave 5K Committee has eagerly awaited the day we could announce the opening of registration for the Tenth Annual 5K Run/Walk/Ruck. This Fundraiser brings together hundreds of runners and so many people who stand behind those who serve our country protecting our freedom. Many are parents, spouses, siblings, and children of these brave men and women. The 5K fundraiser is our biggest event every year which helps us to raise funds allowing us to continue to help military and their families. Our most recent Act of Kindness was helping a struggling young Marine family.

We, like many, thought the COVID pandemic would long be over. Sadly, none of us know when this will happen!! By now so many of us have either had or know of a loved one or friend or have heard of how so many people have been affected by COVID.

So much has changed to hold a 5K. Generous sponsors are struggling just to keep their businesses open and sadly many have closed. Volunteers, many no longer want to be in large crowds, even wearing a mask. Food now has to be individually wrapped, and more. Regulations are even more stringent.

After much thought we have decided to postpone the 2022 Run for the Brave 5K Race, foremost for the safety of our participants who have supported us throughout the past ten years. Due to COVID-19 and now the additional variants, which put last year’s race for us in the cancel category, we realized that the potential risk to runners was just too great to attempt an in-person event in 2022. A repeat of the virtual race was not considered as we felt our Tenth Anniversary 5K could only be truly realized if we celebrated together. We thank you for your continued dedication and support of our troops and it is our intent to honor your commitment in person when we are finally able to host our tenth anniversary 5K...live.

Likewise, we honor our sponsors who have graciously supported us in the past, but were hit hard by this pandemic and unable to commit to us this year. Acknowledging that both the risks and the costs were too substantial for us to take on, we remain focused on our Military, their needs, and what we can do to make the race memorable for all.

On behalf of Operation Welcome You Home, we want to humbly thank you for your dedication and support to each and every service man and woman of which “all gave some and some gave all”. We will continue to do our part to support them and welcome your assistance in helping us to maintain our unwavering support to them.

Respectfully,
Donna & Judi
